We are excited to announce the UCT MPhil in FinTech information session, a special event designed to introduce students with a four-year degree interested in pursuing a degree in financial technology to our interdisciplinary MPhil programme in Financial Technology.

About the Speakers
Dr Allan Davids - Director & Course Convener at UCT Financial Innovation Hub
Dr Davids is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Economics and Director of the Financial Innovation Hub, both at the University of Cape Town. His research interests include housing, household finance, and public finance and at the Hub. He is also a research fellow at the Centre for Household Finance at Stellenbosch University.
Titose Chembezi - Associate at Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
Titose is an innovative professional using entrepreneurial skills to drive innovation and strategy with fintech applications. She has global experience in banking and advisory roles, specialising in management consulting, project management, technology trend analysis, risk management, conference planning, workshop training, and design thinking.
Julian Kanjere - Senior Engineer at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
Julian is a technologist and entrepreneur. He has experience leading software implementations and blockchain projects, and regularly speaks at technology conferences on building inclusive solutions and blockchain in emerging markets. He has successfully raised innovation funding from various sources and won prestigious awards such as the Schmidt Futures Reimagine Challenge by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt - all testament to his drive to advance society using innovation and technology. Julian previously developed enterprise software at Hexagon PPM and institutional investment management software at Allan Gray.
Gregory is a fintech entrepreneur and UCT MPhil in FinTech graduate (seven distinctions), with a foundation in Engineering (Cum Laude, University of Pretoria). He began his career in AI EduTech before joining Mesh—a Stellar blockchain capital markets platform that secured $10 million in early 2023—where he led product and analytics initiatives. In 2023, Gregory founded Tata-iMali, winning UCT FinHub and MTN MoMo hackathons, completing UCT’s pre-incubation and the SA Innovation Summit programmes, and earning “Most Exceptional Startup” at the SA Innovation Summit. Tata-iMali also secured a $150 000 (R2.8 million) angel investment from Stefan Thomas, former CTO of Ripple. In early 2025, Gregory joined the START Partners accelerator at the University of St. Gallen.
